Large Polychrome Classic Zuni Water Jar

This classic primary design, which occupies on the neck of the jar has the 2 horizontal elongate flower motif with the dagger motifs in-between, the double life line is visible to the viewer. On the lower two bands, is a particularly strong example of classic Zuni Pueblo design motifs. 6 Heart-line Deer appear in the upper middle band, standing on top within the water wave band that rise up and down painted in hematite & yellow ochre. Intricate rosette or medallion flower designs appear in opposite of each sides. This "deer in the house" pattern repeats four times around the bottom of the jar's body. None of these elements is out of the ordinary, but there’s something about the manner in our ancestors who arranged the design motifs that strikes us as extraordinarily alluring. This is well executed example of a Paloma pottery. Signed: Paloma 2/2023 Zuni, N.M.
