Polychrome Matsaki Water Jar

This type of pottery that is related in decoration and form to Sikyatki Polychrome is called Matsaki Polychrome and is named after one of the ancient Ashiwi villages. These type of vessels were excavated in great quantity at Hawikuh and Kechibawan. There were bowls, jars, plates and other special shapes. The design painting and drawings are to emphasize the superb ancestral ware that led to the famous Zuni pottery styles made in Zuni Pueblo around 1700.
